Happy New Year!

by The Mayor!

New Years Resolutions funnyBelieve it or not, the arrival of 2011 heralds a special anniversary here in Crazy Town…it was exactly one year ago that The Mayor wrote her first post. And much like that first post, this one finds me lounging in my jammies, ever so grateful that the rug rats slept ’til noon, & wondering why every other parent on the planet hasn’t managed to train their own kids that well. However, since I’m really not the sappy, nostalgic type, unless it’s in reference to my kidlets, I have no desire whatsoever to wax poetic over the passing of 2010. While most people spend these few days around New Year’s spouting optimistic niceties & platitudes, I see it for what it is…just one more day marked off on the calendar. Same shit, different year. So far at least. Of course, it has only been a day. But I’m not holding my breath that 2011 will see me swept off to a tropical paradise to while away the rest of my days in sun, sand, & a never ending stream of cabana boys bearing margaritas. A girl can dream though.

In the meantime, I will continue to plug away here in Crazy Town, doing what I do best…running myself ragged chasing kidlets, then comingFunny New Years image here, to my virtual world, to vent about it in a desperate attempt to maintain my sanity. Same shit, different day. Admittedly though, 2010 did bring me something completely unexpected, & highly rewarding…all of the wonderfully supportive, entertaining, & absolutely phenomenal women that I have come to know & love through the world of blogging. It was, & is, each of you that know & understand the day to day crazy that comes with running a busy household, that are there for each other to offer a shoulder, to commiserate, to find the silver lining, & to ensure that none of us ever really feel alone on this wild journey of mothering. This is what has kept me coming back to Crazy Town, day after day, for an entire year now…this community of support giving me the freedom to be The Mayor of Crazy Town, complete with the bleeding eye bobs & ice pick to the brain. Because they get it…& they have their own matching set of ice picks. So in celebration of both a new year, & the one year anniversary of Crazy Town, I want to recognize them, in no particular order of course, by Mayoral decree, as…

Funny Happy New YearDon’t doubt for a moment what each of has given me in the past year. I wish you all the best for 2011, & all of the niceties & platitudes that you can think to spout…I mean that sincerely! Of course, that applies as well to all of my amazing friends & family who continue to visit Crazy Town, validating what I do here, & helping to make my own little corner of the internet the success that it is today. And since I have another decade or two before I can give up my office as Mayor, here’s to another year of craziness…together!

The Mayor!

I hope this Wordless Wednesday finds you well, having survived another Christmas season! I, for one, am pretty happy to put it all behind me for another year, & look forward to a few days of peace & quiet, hangin’ in my jammies, playing Kinect with the kidlets & fighting The Boy for the new books that are calling my name! After all, not much point in attempting to put my house back together until I shuffle them back to school next week…yes, it’s a valid excuse for doing nothing, especially after a month straight of sheer chaos! In the meantime, New Year’s Eve is fast approaching, so of course, I simply must make it the topic for this week….

funny cartoon first-day-of-christmas

‘Twas the week before Christmas, & all through the house,

Mom’s going crazy, while Dad’s getting soused.

The stockings are hung, haphazard & worn,

And  the Christmas decor is tattered & torn.

The children are whiny, all sick in their beds,

While feverish nightmares dance in their heads.

And me with my eye twitch, bespeaking my plight,

Is horribly sleep deprived from wrapping all night.

When all through the house, there arose such a clatter,

I knew in an instant the rug rats were better.

Away to the stairs, I flew like a flash,

I’m too old for that, so I fell on my ass.

The jelly smeared handprints on my once pristine walls,

Tell all who may enter that kids roam these halls.

When what to my bleeding eyes should appear,

But two little girls, their cheeks streaked with tears.

With The Diva defiant, The Baby so sweet,

I knew in a moment which one to beat.

More rapid than eagles, my temper did grow,

The brats all scattered before I could blow.

“Now rug rats, & yard apes, & all kids of mine!

Stay out of my face, I’ve run short on time!”

“To your rooms, to the neighbours, I really don’t care,

Just dash away, dash away, get out of my hair!”

And it’s back to the cooking & cleaning for me,

The shopping, the wrapping, no time to go pee!

With the cat eating tinsel, & the cookies all burnt,

My wine glass is empty & I wish it weren’t.

As I frantically searched all the cupboards & shelves,

I wondered if Santa could spare me some elves.

Little green men to do all my bidding,

And deal with the rug rats screaming & hitting.

Instead here I am, dressed like a slob,

With tape in my hair, & flour in globs.

A bundle of toys, still left to wrap,

Taunting me cruelly, as I try to nap.

My eyes, they are bleary, my ears they are ringing,

From the incessant noise of Dora’s singing.

My droll little mouth, drawn down in a frown,

As I once again neglect my virtual Town.

The empty wine glass, held tight in my hand,

Begs to be filled, but sadly I can’t.

Mustn’t get sloshed with so much to do,

If Mommy doesn’t do it, the question is who?

For it all falls to us at this time of year,

To handle it all & spread Christmas cheer.

A blink of my eyes, & a shake of my head,

Soon helped sweep away my feeling of dread.

I will get it done, I must set to work,

The joy it will bring them, my one real perk.

And laying aside the glass I’ll fill later,

I finish up wrapping, even Darth Vader.

Finally it’s done, & Mom can relax,

Head to her blog & poetically wax.

But worth every moment, for my children, my light,

So Merry Christmas to all, & to all a good night!

I wonder if there’s still time to make it on to the Naughty list…since poking fun at Santa just might qualify me for that. If I wasn’t there already of course!
